The darkness brings out the beast mode in monsters. During the night, enemies become significantly more dangerous. Monsters are faster and stronger as a benefit for them. The benefit for you is that they spawn a lot quicker. If you know good farming areas already, you may be able to take advantage of it further, as monsters will spawn back even quicker.
